Each ASDAL chapter will also host their own annual conferences, scheduled according to the needs and preferences of the chapter. These local events provide valuable opportunities for connection, collaboration, and professional development within each region.

ASDAL International Conferences will be held every four years, hosted on a rotating basis by active chapters around the world. These gatherings bring together ASDAL members across regions to share ideas, research, and strengthen our global network.

Upcoming International Conferences:

  • 2028 - Latin America
  • 2032 - Europe
  • 2036 - Africa
  • 2040 - North America
  • New chapters will be added at the end of each complete rotation.
Each chapter will decide which country/state/region, within its chapter, will host the international meeting, and the host will decide on the dates (anytime between mid-June to mid-July) that the conference will be held. It is the host’s responsibility to be mindful of the region’s specific holidays.

General Conference Sessions are held every five years, and ASDAL International conferences every four years, which means they will be held around the same time every 20 years. The next General Conference Session is in 2025 and the next time it will be held in the same year as ASDAL International is 2040. The Site Planning Committee recommends that when the two conferences are scheduled for the same year, the ASDAL International Conference be held either right before or immediately after the GC session and at the closest location to the GC venue.

The 2025 ASDAL North American Chapter Conference will be held from Friday evening, June 27 through Wednesday noon, July 2 on the beautiful campus of Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan, USA.  The change from the usual practice of a Monday through Thursday conference is to accommodate the General Conference Session which begins July 3 in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.

Open Futures, Open Choices is our conference theme.  As textbooks, publishing, and primary sources become more open, so are our choices and challenges in how we innovate library services with them. Additionally, while faculty and students have been using artificial intelligence applications such as Grammarly for over a decade, generative artificial intelligence, such as ChatGPT, has rocked higher education in ways that other, older applications have not. How do we thoughtfully use and teach generative AI while recognizing its limitations?

Registration for the conference includes conference attendance, the banquet on Friday, July 27, and lunch on Wednesday, July 2. Tickets for the optional tour on Sabbath, June 28, include a box lunch and dinner following the tour. Other meals are available from Andrews University dining services or local restaurants and are purchased separately.

Housing is available on the Andrews University campus and must be booked directly through Andrews University. For more information, visit Andrews University Hospitality Services.

Andrews University is located within driving distance of several International Airports (listed here). If you will need transportation between Andrews University and the airport, please contact Marianne Kordas (kordas@andrews.edu) of the local arrangements committee.

If you have additional questions about the registration process, please contact Neal Smith (neal.smithjr@ahu.edu).

The Latin American Librarians Association (ASDAL) is preparing to hold its second International Congress of Librarians , which is particularly important this year: it will be held in Chile for the first time. This event will be a meeting point for library, information, and documentation professionals from around the world, who will share their experiences, knowledge, and advances in the field.

The Congress promises to be a fundamental platform for discussing the challenges and opportunities facing libraries in the digital age, with topics ranging from information preservation and information literacy to the integration of new technologies and digital resource management. In addition, topics such as inclusion, accessibility, and the role of libraries in promoting culture and education in the region will be explored.
