Distance Education Resources
----------------------------------------

At the 2000 ASDAL Conference, an Ad Hoc Committee on Distance Education was formed to foster cooperation between the libraries of SDA universities and colleges offering distance education courses and to liaise with the newly formed Adventist Virtual Learning Laboratory (AVLL).

The following resources are listed to assist you in serving the information needs of your distance students. Some have been created by ASDAL librarians, others have been discovered and deemed invaluable in the myriad of resources currently available in print or on the Web.

If you find something that you are willing to share with your colleagues, please contact us with your suggestions so that we can share them with others.

Greer, Ann T. (Southern University)
"A Practitioner's Manual: A Planning Tool for the Quick Development of Asynchronous and Interactive Synchronous Internet Library Support." A succinct manual has been prepared that may be used to assist in the design of a workable strategy when the task to deliver global electronic library support is imminent and time is a factor. The manual is a blend of theory and practicality. Its contents are based upon the disciplines of computer, library, and information sciences. It is divided into 4 sections: Authoritative foundation for distance education support; manpower needed to develop, implement, and maintain the support; storyboard and resulting homepage design that coordinates the support; and evaluation tools for accreditation purposes and continous improvement of the support. References are included for those who need more than the concise information that this guide provides.

SURVEYS

Greer, Ann T. (Southern University)
Interim-course and post-course online surveys. These evaluation tools were developed in the context of Bloom's Hierarchy of Learning and the Association of College & Research Libraries' (ACRL) learning outcomes requirement. Questions posed are an endeavor to determine quality of the distance education library support program. As reported by users, the completed surveys serve as documentation for accrediting bodies to help ascertain if off-campus support is comparable to on-campus support.
