SPEAKERS

KEYNOTE SPEAKER - Dr. Larry Hardesty is an alumnus of the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) with both undergraduate and graduate degrees from the institution. He has served as director of library services at Eckerd College, college librarian at Austin College, and interim university librarian at Winona State University. He has served in several positions in the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), including president (1999-2000), member of the Board of Directors, chair of the College Libraries section (1995-1996), member of the College and Research Libraries Editorial Board (1990-1996), and chair of the Charlotte ACRL National conference (2003), In 2001 Hardesty received the ACRL Academic Research Librarian of the Year. In 2002 he received an outstanding alumnus award from UNK. He is also the recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus awards from the School of Library and Information studies of the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2002), where he received his MALA, and the Indiana Univeristy School of Library and Information Science (2000), where he received his PhD in Library and Information Science. Hardesty continues to direct the College Library Directors' Mentor Program.

Genevieve Cottrell is Cataloger, McKee Library, Southern Adventist University. She served as Director of Libraries from 2001-2007 and initiated the Team approach to the library's management.

Stan Cottrell is Technical Services Librarian and Technical Services Team Leader, McKee Library, Southern Adventist University. He was previously employed at Columbia Union College as Cataloging Librarian.

Carlene Drake is Director of the Loma Linda University Libraries, Loma Linda Univeristy. Her previous experiences include Reference Librarian, Chair of Public Services, and Associate Director. Her professional activities include serving on the Executive Board of Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium, President of Medical Library Group of Southern California and Arizona, and currently President of ASDAL.

Yacob Haliso is Senior Lecturer and Head of Department Information Resources Management, Babcock University, Nigeria. He received his MLIS from the University of Ibadan in 1999 and his PhD from the University of Ibidan in 2007.

Warren Johns is Special Collections Cataloger, Loma Linda University Libraries, Loma Linda University. Prior to coming to Loma Linda University in 2006, Johns worked in James White Library, Andrews University, cataloging Adventist and other materials.

Lauren Matacio is Instruction Librarian, James White Library, Andrews University. She received the MA in Educational and Developmental Psychology from Andrews University in 1979 and the MS in Librarianship from Western Michigan University in 1983. Prior to her present position, she was Catalog Librarian and Head, Department of Bibliographic Services at James White Library.

Uloma D. Onuoha is Lecturer II, Department of Information Resources Management, Babcock University, Nigeria. Her academic background includes a BA from the University of Jos, Master in Personnel Psychology from Olabisi Onabanjo University and an MLIS from the University of Ibadan. She is currently a PhD candidate in the University of Ibadan.

Nicola Palmer is Acqusitions/Serials Librarian, Hiram S. Walters Resource Centre, Northern Caribbean University, Jamaica. She also participates in literacy instruction to library patrons and research methodology presentations to faculty and staff. She pursued post graduate courses in library and information science, earned a BA in English from the University of the West Indies, and holds a Teacher's Education diploma.

Terry Robertson is Seminary Librarian, James White Library, Andrews University. He joined the staff at James White Library in 1992 and earned an MLS degree from Indiana University in 1998. In addition to his library duties, he teaches the research methods course for the Seminary.

Marge Seifert is Public Services Librarian, McKee Library, Southern Adventist University. She oversees all the public services at the McKee Library and serves as the Public Services Team Leader. Her chief duties are in the areas of reference and instruction.

Steve Sowder is Systems Librarian, James White Library, Andrews University. Previously he was the Director of Information Systems at Southwestern Adventist University for 18 years. He received his MLIS from the University of North Texas in 1997.

Yvette Sparrow is Technical Services Librarian, Pieter Wessels Library, Helderberg College, South Africa. Before working in the library, she spent the previous 20 years teaching Grade 3-12 at different time periods. Sparrow has a four-year teaching qualification and is presently completing a degree in Information Science. In 2009 she was appointed Technical Services Librarian of Helderberg College.

Felipe Tan is Senior Cataloger, James White Library, Andrews University. He was employed at the Adventist International Institute of Advanced Studies, Philippinies as assistant librarian for two years and as library director for 16 years of the Leslie Hardinge Library before joining Andrews. He taught seminary and library science classes and served as church/district pastor in the Philippines. He is the current editor of the Classification Scheme for Adventists and Ellen White.
