SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES

ADEOGUN, Margaret, Ph.D., is the University Librarian at the University of Eastern Africa Baraton, Kenya.

AINA, Rachael Folashade is a graduate of Babcock University in Information Resources Management. She is completing her Masters Degree in Library, Archival and Information Studies at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. She is currently working as graduate assistant at the Department of Information Resources Management, Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State Nigeria. Her areas of interest are Records and Information Resources Management as well as lecturing.

ALGER, Sallie J. began her career at the James White Library in 1985/86 as a "student assistant" in Periodicals where she advanced to head of the department and then became Head of Technical Services in 1996. She left librarianship from 1998 to 2003 when she did development work for Andrews and then Adventist Frontier Missions. In 2003 she returned to her position as Head of Bibliographic Services/Periodicals/S.A.I.L. at JWL. She is an Elder at the Pioneer Memorial Church on campus, and volunteers for Women's Ministries, Optimist's Club International, and at the Berrien Springs Community Library.

ATULOMAH, Bola C., B.A., M.A.S., M.P.P., is former Head of the Department of Information Resource Management, Babcock University, Ilishan, Nigeria. She is currently the Deputy University Librarian and a doctoral student of the Department of Library Archives and Information Studies, University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

BEAMAN, Patricia has been Periodicals Librarian at Southern Adventist University since 1997. SAU is located in Collegedale, Tennessee, United States.

BERRY, Christy is currently the Reference/Interlibrary Loan Librarian at Walla Walla College in College Place, WA where she has worked for three years. Her duties include reference and interlibrary loan, as well as bibliographic instruction. She has a Masters in Information Science & Learning Technology and a School Media Center Specialist certificate from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

BIRKENSTOCK, David graduated from Helderberg College. His first position was as a history and Bible teacher at Sedaven High School in South Africa. After that he served 38 years at Helderberg College as Farm Manager, High School Teacher, College lecturer, Academic Dean and for 17 years as Rector (President). He capped his professional career with almost 7 years at AIIAS in the Philippines, one year as Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and 6 years as President. Currently he is retired and serving part time as Director of Ellen G. White Research and Heritage Center at Helderberg College.

DICK, Archie L. (Keynote Speaker) Archie Dick achieved qualifications in LIS at the University of the Western Cape, the University of Washington in Seattle, USA and the University of Cape Town, where he obtained a Ph.D. in 1991. He has worked in libraries in the Western Cape Province of South Africa, and he taught at the University of the Western Cape and at the University of South Africa (Unisa).

He was a Deputy Dean and Director of School in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Unisa from 2000-2003. His is currently Professor in the Department of Information Science at the University of Pretoria. In 2003, Archie received the Unisa Council award for outstanding scholar, and he has been a visiting professor at Wayne State University and at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in the United States.

He has published over fifty articles and chapters in peer-reviewed journals and books, and his monograph, The Philosophy, Politics and Economics of Information appeared in 2002. He is currently working on a book dealing with South Africa's reading culture in the 20th century.

FORD, Jim graduated with dual masters degrees from the University of Maryland. He served at the General Conference Archives for nine years before moving to Andrews University where he remains. He as first the Curator of the Adventist Heritage Center and presently serves as Associate Director of the Center for Adventist Research.

GASKELL, Carolyn is Director of Libraries at Walla Walla College in College Place, Washington, United States.

HAYNES, Carole is Professor Emeritus, School of Education, Southern Adventist University. She resides in Ooltewah, Tennessee, United States. Carole's specialty is reading.

HELMS, Cynthia Mae, associate professor of library science, is interlibrary loan librarian and head of the Information Services Department at the James White Library, Andrews University. As an active participant in the reference, consultation, and instruction services of the department, she believes in promoting the information commons and information literacy concepts. She has served ASDAL in various capacities as officer, facilitator, and presenter.

HUNT, Katye is Director of Adventist Network of General Educational Libraries. ANGEL provides library materials for the K-12 schools located in the Southern Union of Seventh-day Adventists. Katye has been an employee of Southern Adventist University for 30 years and is now moving to the Southern Union although ANGEL will still be based in Collegedale, Tennessee, United States.

MATACIO, Lauren is Instruction Librarian at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan, United States.

MBALI, Nabisa is Deputy Director of Library Services as Helderberg College, Somerset West, South Africa.

MCCLAY, Bruce is Associate Librarian at the School of Nursing Library, Walla Walla College. His library is located in Portland, Oregon, United States.

MCCLAY, Johanna has worked for Bismarck State College Library as the Reference and Instructional Services Librarian since August 2001. She graduated from the University of North Texas in December 2000 and looked for work back in the great Midwest. She spends her free time hiking with her dogs and boyfriend, snuggling her cat, swimming, and enjoying the frigid windy North Dakota winters.

ROBERTSON, Terry is Seminary Librarian at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan, United States.

SEIFERT, Marge is Public Services Librarian at Southern Adventist University, Collegedale, Tennessee, United States.

THOMSEN, Cristina M. is Library Director at Southwestern Adventist University, Keene, Texas, United States.
