POSTER SESSIONS

"Andrews University and the Open WorldCat Program," Lawrence Onsager, Andrews University.

OCLC's Open WorldCat program makes records of library-owned materials in OCLC's WorldCat database available to Web users on popular Internet search, bibliographic and bookselling sites. Through Open WorldCat, OCLC hopes that libraries that participate in WorldCat-based cataloging get greater exposure to information-seekers and increased access to their online catalog and other Web-based resources. Access to Andrews University holdings will be analyzed and creative uses of Open WorldCat will be demonstrated.

"Beyond BI: Interdisciplinary Campus Connections that Market and Strengthen the Small Music Library," Linda Mack, Andrews University.

Music Librarians often bring a variety of skills, knowledge, and interests to the practice of music librarianship. This poster illustrates the various ways that the music librarian at Andrews University has employed some of her diverse skills/knowledge/interests to connect with other campus entities and community groups for the benefit not only of those communities, but also for the benefit of the music library and the library system as a whole.

"Book Arts: Aesthetics, Collection, Creation," Lauren Matacio, Andrews University.

Running parallel to the growth of electronic library resources during the past decade has been the surprising growth of book arts. Book arts is a term which encompasses hand bookbinding, letterpress printing, artists' books, and altered books. Paper art techniques such as hand paper making and paper marbling, as well as calligraphy are often used in creating book arts. Many libraries now include book arts in their special collections. Techniques used in creating book arts and issues surrounding the aquisition and management of a book arts collection will be addressed. An opportunity will be given for ASDAL members to particpate in a group creation of a piece of book art.

"Chapel Choices: Something for Everyone!" Sallie Alger, Andrews University.

"Chapel Choices" is a program begun several years ago by Keith and Margarita Mattingly, professors of Religion and Physics at Andrews University. Offered several times a year, it is an alternative to the more formal chapel programs held each week in the church giving an opportunity for faculty to interact with students in small groups. This poster is a collage showcasing the "mini-chapels" that James White Library faculty members have either arranged for, or participated in.

"One Book, One Union: Motivating a College Campus to Read," Sabrina Riley & Greg Okimi, Union College.

Learn how the popular One Book community reading program was adapted to an academic campus setting at Union College. The poster will display a visual time line of the program, showcase publicity, and sample participants' responses.

"The ARC/EDRA Connection," Kathy Demsky, Andrews University.

The Architecture Resource Center (ARC), a branch of the James White Library at Andrews University, has become the official repository worldwide for publications on environment and man studies. This interdisciplinary collection holds books, monographic series, journals, EDRA proceedings, documents, technical papers, and multimedia materials supporting research in the discipline of environment and behavior. The collection has been developed over the past thirty-five years and is the most comprehensive in the world. There are more than 15,000 titles currently held in the ARC. This collection is augmented yearly as a result of the Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA) book display held at each annual conference.
